The Global Tennis Fan

The global tennis fan spans a broad demographic attracting an almost even split between male and female fans.
While the tennis attracts fans of all ages, a significant number of tennis fans are aged between 16 and 44.

Tennis fans are heavy consumers of social media and have a high propensity to own multiple devices. This
translates into a desire and expectation to be able to watch tennis whenever, wherever & on whatever device they choose.

Tennis Tour - Social Followings

When it comes to the relationship between social media and tennis the bond is strong. Fans have the ability to interact with their favourite players both on and off the court. Tennis has fully embraced the social revolution. In 2015, Wimbledon broke new ground as one of the first federations to utilise Snapchat to extend its reach with a younger demographic; recognising that the way sport is consumed is constantly evolving.

The increased use of mobile now sees fans watch sport over much smaller periods, and in highlights format rather than full matches.
The days of television and desktop streaming seem to be taking a back seat, as a new dawn of mobile and on the move sports
consumption is ushered in.

The IMG ARENA streaming statistics for the ATP 1000s and Roland Garros over the last three years have made very interesting viewing, and have reflected a wider societal change in not only how we consume sport but media in general. Tennis fans have followed the movement from desktop to mobile and now are viewing tennis streams more on the go than ever before.

Tennis fans look set to continue to be early adopters of new technology. A recent Global Web Index survey found the
propensity for tennis fans to use VR and AR, to be well above the average consumer. With this in mind, expect tennis and its fans,
to lead the way when it comes to innovation being rolled out across the sporting landscape.
