Summer Kicks Off in Style at IMG ARENA

July looks to be a juicy month of sport for IMG ARENA properties. Wimbledon will certainly be headlining the month and we can’t wait for the action from Centre Court and the new Number One Court to get started on the 1st.

Since 1877, players have been coming to Wimbledon to try and claim the pinnacle prize in grass court tennis and the world’s oldest tennis trophy. Between them, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer and Andy Murray have won the last 16 renewals of the men’s singles and all are back on the court in some capacity this year. Murray’s win at Queen’s has added a brilliant dimension to the week and it is great to see him back in front of his adoring home crowds. On the back of her wins at the French Open and in Nottingham, Ashleigh Barty will be the punters favourite for the ladies singles.

The end of July also sees the beginning of the high-class hard court season in both the WTA and the ATP. Three grand slam champions and 15 WTA singles winners make up a stellar field for the Silicon Valley Classic. The Citi Open will once again see a high-class line-up and Alexander Zverev will be looking to win his third title in a row in Washington.

In the Golf, the action from the European Tour continues from both the Irish Open and Scottish Open. They will be the final opportunities for players to hone their skills ahead of The Open at Dunluce. Later in the month the European Tour and PGA Tour convene for the WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational. It is the 21st WGC Invitational tournament and the third WGC event this year. Dustin Johnson claimed the WGC-Mexico Championship at the beginning of the year and Kevin Kisner won the matchplay at the end of March. Tiger Woods has 18 WGC victories and will be hoping to add to that total at TPC Southwind. His last WGC win came in 2013.

On the other side of the pond, the MLS is heating up too and is giving European football fans their fill of top-class football. Wayne Rooney continues to burn up the league and the recent goal he scored from his own half will give global football fans memories of similar goals he scored in the Premier League. He has now scored a goal from his own half for every team he has ever played for! The Los Angles derby is always a great occasion, while the current top of the table clash between Philadelphia and Montreal will be very hotly contested at the end of the month.

Finally, the first ranking event of the World Snooker season takes place and the end of July. The Riga Masters spells the start of the season proper and we cannot wait for it to get in full swing.
