May brings the pinnacle of the football season as the FA Cup comes to an end when Chelsea face Liverpool at Wembley. The oldest national football competition in the world, the FA Cup is a world-renowned tournament and has brought in over 81 million views so far across the season. Liverpool are currently in a good position to take a historic quadruple, and after Chelsea were defeated in last year’s FA Cup final and narrowly lost out in their last meeting with Liverpool in the Carabao Cup, the pressure is on for the team to take home the trophy.

The second major of the year is here in the tennis calendar as Roland Garros gets underway from 22nd May. The clay court tournament puts players to the test and this year will be no different as some of tennis’ best take to the court in Paris. Fan favourites for this year’s tournament include youngsters Carlos Alcaraz and world number one, Iga Swiatek, after a series of recent successes. However, despite Swiatek’s 23 match winning streak, her recent withdrawal from the Madrid Open due to injury has left fans hoping she will have recovered in time in a bid to take her second Grand Slam title.

The second major of the golf calendar takes place from 19th May as players compete in the PGA Championship at Southern Hills Country Club. There are 18 PGA Champions in the field list with favourites including recent Masters champion and world No. 1, Scottie Scheffler, as well as other greats Rory McIlroy, Jon Rahm and Dustin Johnson. Also competing for the famous Wanamaker trophy is Jordan Spieth, who just needs this PGA Championship title to become only the 6th player in history to achieve golf’s Career Grand Slam.

Once again the EuroLeague season comes to an end in May with the Final Four in Belgrade. The semi-finals will take place on Thursday 19th with the Championship game following on Saturday 21st. After a close battle for the top spot continually throughout the regular season, Real Madrid and Barcelona will both be fighting in the semi-finals to secure the top position once and for all. Anadolu Efes Istanbul will also be fighting for their place in the final Championship match alongside either Olympiacos or AS Monaco depending on who succeeds in the playoffs.

UFC brings fans more action this month with UFC 274 on 7th May in Arizona. The event is headlined by the Lightweight Championship bout between current champion Charles Oliveira and former interim champion Justin Gaethje. Oliveira has won his last 10 trips to the Octagon but with Gaethje known as one of the most aggressive fighters in the sport, he’s unlikely to be phased by Oliveira’s winning streak. Also featuring the Women’s Strawweight Championship rematch between Rose Namajunas and Carla Esparza, the event will no doubt give fans a host of entertainment.

May brings a jam-packed schedule of cricket fixtures for fans, with the continued Cricket World Cup League 2 bringing another 6 matches this month. The first edition of the tournament which makes up part of the 2023 World Cup Qualification process has seen a series of One-Day Internationals running since August 2019. The top three teams progress into the Qualifiers with Oman being the first team to qualify after their success against Papa New Guinea by 85 runs. This month sees the tri-series between the US, Scotland and the UAE as the remaining teams battle it out to take the final two spots.

The longest race on the NASCAR schedule, and the third of the four-crown jewel races, the Coca-Cola 600 takes place on 29th May. The timing of the race means drivers are racing in sunlight, dusk and darkness, making the event a regular fan favourite. 2021 standout driver Kyle Larson took the title last year and will be hoping to retain his title for 2022.
